MY STORY

First recognised by his winning performance at Canterbury Music Festival in 2016, Scott Layton has since performed at a variety of venues. Whether singing to half a dozen people, or a large audience, his consistent ability to deliver an intimate performance is what allows him to shine as an artist. His recent achievement of winning the ‘Open Mic’ hosted by The Penny Theatre in Canterbury 2020, at which he performed his debut single ‘Upon a Mountain or by the Sea’, impressed the judges and audience alike. Layton continues to perform regularly at local venues, having attracted a consistent crowd following.
Having lived the length and breadth of the UK from a young age; from the sunny seaside town of Folkestone to the serene scenery of the Isle of Skye, and much more in-between, his one constant was his passion for music. Scott began making music when he bought his first guitar at the age of fifteen, after a family friend had introduced him to some chords. He was obsessed. He practiced for hours and hours every day, until he emulated the likes of Passenger, Damien Rice and David Gray. And then he found his own voice. Performing locally has caught the attention of many people, leading to opportunities like playing showcases and recording live sessions. Being exposed to so many songwriters in these settings has inspired him to take pen to pad and continue to nurture his creative flame.
Harnessing the flare of folk-rock and the singer-songwriter stylisation of the likes of Ed Sheeran, James Blunt and his main influence, Passenger, Scott Layton continues to add additional layers to this ever popular genre of music. Consisting of one voice and his guitar, Layton fills a room with an excitable energy, whilst pulling on the heart strings of his audiences.
